Prerequisites: Foundation in Studio Art class, Drawing and Painting, or  Sculpture/Ceramics. 
 
Who: This course is open to juniors who have completed the Foundation in Studio Art course, in addition to the Drawing and Painting course or the Sculpture/Ceramics.  A student who enrolls in this course is typically one who enjoys the process of making art and may take art in college.
 
What: This course focuses on traditional and contemporary practices and techniques used to develop students' personal visions through art.  The AP art student will explore a variety of media, methods, and topics associated with historical and contemporary art. This course also offers students the opportunity to study aesthetics, art criticism, and art history.  Each student completes this course with a cohesive, portfolio- ready body of work used to submit to the AP board. The portfolio serves as the final examination for this course. 
 
When: Juniors can successfully complete the course in two years. 
 
Where: Art studio practice is supplemented with evening figure drawing workshops held in the student commons at Schreiber High School. Students study anatomy and learn how to draw from a live model to better prepare themselves for college level courses. Evening figure drawing workshops are held at Schreiber High School and may be used to fulfill the homework requirements. Field trips to NYC galleries and museums will also be a part of this course.
 
Why: This is a wonderful course where a student grows as a person and artist. Students learn how their effort can bring artistic satisfaction. The students can earn AP credit which may be accepted by prospective colleges.
