Code of Conduct, Regulations and Facilities:
Pupil Attendance - If a student has combined absences and latenesses totaling more than 3 they will be dropped from the class. Latenesses less than 30 minutes will be counted as a half an absence, while latenesses greater than 30 minutes, count as a full day absence. A student will be dropped for any lateness or absence after the third absence. Parents/guardians will be contacted on a daily basis for any absence.
Student Absences – All student absences must be called into the Summer School office (516) 767-5906 prior to the beginning of the session, followed by a note signed by a parent or guardian indicating the reason for the absence.
Cell Phone Policy: Students must hand in cell phones to the teacher upon entering the classroom. The students will have cell phones returned at the close of class. Any student who refuses to hand in a cell phone or is found using one during class, will be asked to leave the class. This will result in a full absence for the day. We have found this to be a successful practice in reducing distractions and enabling the students to focus while in class.
Pupil Attire - Students must wear clothing that does not interfere with the educational program or endanger the welfare and safety of other students. Although informal attire is permissible during the summer months, standards of good taste should be maintained. Shirts, and shoes or sneakers must be worn. Beachwear is not permitted. Shorts must be no shorter than three inches above the knee. All shirts must cover the shoulders and midriff area. All under garments are to remain covered. Students may not wear hats during class. Students who violate these standards are subject to being sent home and absences noted on their record
Smoking/ Vaping – By New York State law, there is to be absolutely NO SMOKING/VAPING on the school property. Violators will be subject to expulsion from the program.
Passes - No students are allowed out of class during periods without a pass from the teacher. Passes will be issued on an emergency basis only.
Transportation and Parking - Parents are responsible for providing transportation to and from school. Students are to be dropped off in the designated area only. Student parking is provided by the high school tennis courts only. Students parking on campus in areas other than next to the tennis courts will result in suspension and/or dropped from the program.
Personal Property - The summer school is not responsible for any personal property brought to school by students.
Use of Building - Students waiting for class to begin are to remain outside the building. Students are only permitted in the corridors designated for summer school classes. At no time are students permitted to roam the building or loiter. Students who do not observe these rules face expulsion from the program.
Lunch Room - The lunch room will be closed. Students are not permitted to bring food or drinks (except water) into the school building.
Grades - A midterm and final report card will be mailed to parents of each summer school student. At the end of the summer, each student’s grades will also be mailed to the guidance office of the student’s home school. Passing grades for course work and school exams will be 65%.
Contacts with Teachers - Parents who wish to confer with teachers are invited to call the office in advance and request an appointment.
Textbooks – Textbooks for use in courses will be signed out to the student. Students will be charged for lost or damaged books. Some courses may require students to purchase review books at their own expense.
