Mr. Jose Luis Mejia, LMSW

Mr. Jose Luis Mejia is a NYS licensed social worker with a school social work certificate.  He has been a bilingual school social worker at Schreiber High School since September of 2017.  Prior to this, Mr. Mejia had worked in the Hempstead School District, as well as a behavioral health outpatient clinic. 

 

Mr. Mejia received his Master of Social Work degree with a clinical concentration from Fordham University’s Graduate School of Social Service in 2015.  He obtained his bachelor’s degree with an Urban Studies major and Sociology minor from CUNY Queens College in 2012.  During his studies, Mr. Mejia had the opportunity to work with the youth by interning with New York City’s Department of Youth and Community Development in Queens and Hempstead High School in Nassau County.

 

Mr. Mejia prides himself on creating safe spaces for the students so positive working relationships can be established.  With this foundation, Mr. Mejia engages with students and families, as well as collaborates with teachers, the guidance department, administrators, and the rest of the mental health team to ensure a student’s academic, social, and emotional success.  He also works directly with Schreiber’s STEPS and FLC programs, the special education department, is the Anti-Defamation Leagues No Place for Hate Coordinator, and coaches boys’ lacrosse at Schreiber High School.
