Schreiber High School 2022-2023
January Testing Week Information
Dear Parents,
This letter includes information concerning January Testing Week, Tuesday, January 24 through Friday, January 27. This year we are resuming the Midterm/Regents week as in years past. There are no regular classes during testing week. Students should only report to school to sit for an assigned exam. The testing schedule of dates, times and locations is included below. For further student reference the high school will have the testing schedule displayed in the lobby and guidance hallways. Classroom teachers have also provided testing information to their students. In addition, testing information is posted on Schreiber’s Homepage, along with the Modified Bus schedule in effect during testing weeks.
The high school cafeteria will be offering a limited menu daily for breakfast and lunch.
Please note that regardless of any information from the State Education Department or other sources, all Schreiber morning exams begin at 8:15 AM; all afternoon exams begin at 12:15 PM.
Midterms are planned for two hours; the only exception is the Honors Biology midterm which is 2 ½ hours. All Regents exams are three hours.
Conflict Room (room 117):
No student is expected to take more than two exams on any given day. Students who are scheduled for three exams in a single day, have a scheduling conflict, or who were absent from an exam are expected to sit for the makeup exam at the next available testing session that day or the following day. Students are expected to begin the makeup test within 30 minutes (to allow for lunch or a rest period) of exiting the prior exam. Regents exams may not be made up until the following testing cycle offered by NY State (June). For this reason, Regents exams must take priority over all other, local exams.
Any student who is absent or fails to make up a required exam will receive a grade of Incomplete until the exam requirement has been met. The student and teacher must arrange a makeup time and date as soon as is reasonable following Testing Week. Students are not permitted to take any exam in advance of the testing schedule.
Students who have been officially approved for extended testing time accommodations will finish their tests in the Conflict Room (117) at the end of the regular testing time in the regular testing room. Students are to be accompanied by their proctor from the test to the Conflict Room.
Word Processing accommodations:
Students with 504 word processing accommodations may take their tests in room 114 on the first floor.
Special education students with more significant testing modifications have exclusive arrangements that have been organized through the Special Education department.
ENL students will also receive specific testing accommodations through the ENL Department.
Security:
To optimize testing security, no backpacks are permitted in the building. Any student attempting to enter with a backpack will be required to turn it in to school personnel to be stored in a locked lobby closet. Any bag/backpack left after 3:30 PM will remain locked in the closet until the following school morning. In addition, no electronic devices are permitted during an exam. Instead, devices will be powered down and handed over to the testing proctor who will keep the devices until the student permanently exits the test. Any student in violation of this practice will be subject to an invalidation of the test.
It has been our experience that students should begin preparing for Regents and midterm exams well in advance of the testing week. Moreover, because prolonged, late-night studying often results in exhaustion and stress we strongly encourage ample rest and healthy relaxation when possible.
Typically Schreiber students are well-prepared for exams; despite the rigorous work, testing week is often a welcome change in the student schedule. We recognize and support the students with this responsibility and wish them success.
Warm regards,
Schreiber Administration
