August 2024
Dear Student/Parent,
I hope you are enjoying these last few weeks of summer break. This letter is to inform you of some important updates to our procedures for schedule corrections and changes at the beginning of the school year. Read the following information carefully and save for your reference.
Please review your schedule carefully when it is released. Schedules should be released by the end of the day on Friday, August 16th. Our goal is to create a master schedule without any errors, however, some mistakes may occur. Errors are defined as:
*A conflict i.e., two courses scheduled at the same time
*Being scheduled for the wrong level of a course, e.g. Chemistry, Chemistry Regents, Chemistry Honors
*Any missing core class (English, World Language, Math, PE, Health, Science, or Social Studies)
Errors are NOT requests related to personal preferences of teachers, time, elective changes or section changes. These requests will not be honored. Any requests for exceptions must be submitted in writing to the grade level administrator in order to be considered.
All students have the option to submit requests for corrections, level changes, or to drop an elective either in person or via this Google form. Whether you need a correction or are requesting a change, you must follow these procedures. If you choose to submit the form, counselors will work on your requests (in the order they are received) after they return in late August. Please do not email them in addition to sending the form as this will delay the process.
Dates and times for grade level walk-in schedule corrections and changes are as follows:
Wednesday, August 28th from 9:00 am to 11:00 am: walk-in schedule corrections for SENIORS ONLY*
Wednesday, August 28th from 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm: walk-in schedule corrections for FRESHMEN ONLY**
Thursday, August 29th, 9:00 am to 11:00: walk-in schedule corrections for JUNIORS ONLY*
Thursday, August 29th, 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm: walk-in schedule corrections for SOPHOMORES ONLY*
*If the grade-level walk-in time conflicts with a mandatory sports practice, athletes may attend another grade’s session or submit the Google form.
**Freshmen walk-in times occur in the afternoon after Bagels & Locks.
If you are unable to come in to speak to your counselor, you may instead submit your request via this Google form.
Keep in mind that one schedule change can cause other changes to your schedule. If a section is closed, class size caps will not be overridden to accommodate additional students.
Please be aware that only schedule corrections and changes can be discussed during this timeframe. This will allow counselors to service as many of their students as possible. We appreciate your patience as counselors will answer requests in the order that they are received.
Changes and corrections will be made up until the first day of school, Wednesday, September 4th. Students needing corrections only can meet with their counselor on the first day of school to have them fixed. Beginning Thursday, September 5th, changes will be permitted based on availability. Under no circumstances will a class cap be overridden to accommodate additional students.
We appreciate your understanding of the strict adherence to these procedures. We are confident that the process described above will facilitate a smooth transition to the start of the school year.
Thank you for your cooperation in advance of these procedures.
Sincerely,
Lorrie A. Director
Director of Guidance
