Class of 2026 Information
2026 YEARBOOK
Opening Day Letter 2025-2026
August 2025
Dear Senior,
As summer comes to a close, we now look ahead to the new school year. I hope you had both a restful and productive break and are as excited as I am for the year ahead. Welcome back to your Senior year at Schreiber High School! This year will be filled with anticipation, opportunity, and excitement as you prepare for the next stage of your journey.
As Seniors, you know the routines of the building, but this year brings new challenges and responsibilities. You will be balancing coursework, applications, exams, extracurricular activities, practices, and all the other moments that make senior year memorable. To be as successful as possible, I encourage you to use your time wisely, stay engaged in activities that interest you, and keep your focus on academics—your foundation for graduation and beyond.
This year will pass quickly, so take time to explore your passions and enjoy all that Schreiber has to offer. I look forward to celebrating your achievements throughout the year. My door (room 211A) is always open—whether you have a question, need support, or simply want to talk.
FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL
The school year will begin on Wednesday, September 3rd at 8:00 am. Please report to the room listed below at 8:05 a.m. for a special organizational period, which will include your grade level assembly. All students must be present for the organizational period on the first day, including students with first period free. Please bring your schedule, a pen/pencil, notebook, and your district issued charged Chromebook to school with you. Wednesday will be a Day A and all classes will meet, so come prepared. You will receive a copy of the special A Day schedule and you will also be given a new ID card and lanyard, which you are expected to wear throughout each school day. It is very important that you report to your designated room on time.
BOCES STUDENTS: Students who attend BOCES Barry Tech in the p.m. must sign out of my office before they leave the high school. The first day of class at Barry Tech is Thursday, September 4, 2025. All students are expected to attend organizational homeroom and their regular classes on September 3 2025, and sign out of the office when you have completed your schedule for the day.

ENTRANCE TO THE BUILDING: All students must enter the building through the main entrance. ID cards need to be presented when entering the building at all times.
ID CARDS: You will be issued an ID card and lanyard during the first day of school. Students must wear their ID cards at all times when in the building or on school property. Failure to wear your ID card will result in disciplinary action. Your ID card will serve as your bus pass, school library card, and may be used to purchase food in the cafeteria. If a student forgets their ID card at home, they are required to get a temporary one issued when they enter the building. Consistently forgetting your ID card at home will result in disciplinary action. If you lose your ID card, the cost for a replacement is $5.00.
INTERNET ENABLED DEVICES: In accordance with New York State “Distraction Free Schools” law and district policy, all students are prohibited from using internet enabled personal devices during the school day, 8:05-3:05. All students must have these devices silenced and stored in their backpack or locker. Students seen using their personal devices, will face disciplinary action. Students must use the district issued Chromebooks to access google classroom and instructional materials during the school day.
ATTENDANCE: School begins at 8:05 a.m., and classes end at 3:05 p.m. Attendance is taken during every period. In order to be in your first period class on time, you should arrive at school no later than 8:00 a.m. Keep in mind that Campus Drive traffic can be heavy, so leave enough time to arrive at your class on time.
- Absence for the Day: If you are absent or late for the day, your parent(s) must call the Class of 2026 attendance office, 516-767-5834, on the morning of the occurrence to notify us of your absence. All medical absences must be accompanied by a note from the doctor’s office.
- Lateness to School: If you arrive after 8:10 am you must sign in at my office prior to going to first period class. Repeated lateness to class will result in disciplinary action. If you arrive any time after first period ends, you must immediately report to my office to sign-in. A parent(s) should have already called in advance. Oversleeping is not an excuse and will be counted as a cut.
- Signing Out/ Leaving Early: We understand that you might need to leave school early. Students that do not feel well during the day must sign out through the medical office. If you need to leave school early due to a scheduled appointment, your parent(s) must call in advance. You must always sign out either in my office or the medical office before leaving school. Please limit the number of appointments that you make during school. For medical appointments, a note from the doctor must be handed in when you return. If you do not provide a note from the doctor the absence will be recorded as unexcused.
- Cutting Class: Students are expected to attend every scheduled class. Cuts are not acceptable. Parents will be notified when students cut class. In addition, the student will be given after-school detention, which will take precedence over sports, clubs, or other commitments. Failure to attend detention will result in suspension. Repeated class cutting can result in failure of that class for the quarter.
Parents and students should be aware that classes missed, including full-day excused absences or when signing in late or signing out early, may jeopardize academic performance in the classes that are missed and apply towards the 85% rule. Additionally, a student signing in after 11 a.m. may be excluded from participating in the extra-curricular activities on that day (See Student Handbook)
ACADEMIC ELIGIBILITY: Your academic performance is directly connected with your ability to participate in our athletic and extracurricular activities. At the completion of each marking period (quarter) an individual who has failed two or more subjects will be ineligible to participate in co-curricular activities or athletics for the duration of the next marking period. Your fourth quarter grades from the previous year, will determine your eligibility for this year’s Fall sports season.
LOCKERS AND LOCKS: Seniors are not automatically issued a locker. If you want to use a locker this year please see Mrs. Raft for a locker assignment. You may not change lockers without permission. Once a locker has been assigned to you, you may not change it without permission from my office. Remember, the person assigned to the locker is legally responsible for its contents. Do not share your combination with anyone. If you forget your locker combination, come and see Mrs. Raft or me. If you lose or damage the lock, it will cost $5.00 to replace.
STUDENT LUNCH: Every student has a lunch period every day. Students are not allowed to take food out of the cafeteria. Additional seating is available at the picnic tables in front of Schreiber or in the Student Commons. As Seniors, you are permitted to go off-campus for lunch if your schedule permits. You may not congregate by the chain at St. John’s Place or streets adjacent to the school. The tennis courts, the rear of the school and the Monfort Lot area are off limits. If abused, this privilege may be revoked. Eating and gathering in the halls is not allowed.
PARKING: As Seniors, you have the privilege of parking your car in the Monfort lot. On August 26th and 28th, you can obtain a parking permit from Dr. Lomangino’s office. See Senior Parking Information for details. Students MUST have a permit to park in the lot. There are no assigned spots at Monfort. Students may only park in the yellow lined spaces. It is first come, first served. The faculty parking lot and the white lined spaces in Monfort are off limits to students until 3:05pm. (Student Parking Applications) Students who park illegally or in faculty or commuter reserved spots in the Monfort lot will be subject to the following penalties:
- First offense the student will have their permit suspended for a period of 30 days.
- Second offense the student will have their permit suspended for the remainder of the school year.
- Any subsequent offenses may result in in-school suspension and parent notification.
STUDENT HANDBOOK: The Student Handbook contains information that you need to know, including many of the school rules and the student code of character, culture, and conduct. You can access the Student Handbook via the link: Student Handbook or by navigating the Schreiber website. Please read the handbook carefully and review it frequently for reference. You are responsible for following all school rules. These rules and regulations are designed to ensure that everyone has access to an education in a safe and healthy environment.
UNSTRUCTURED TIME: I strongly urge you to spend your unstructured time in the library or resource centers. You may also spend this time in the cafeteria, the Student Commons, or in the circle only. Please remember that all other areas on campus, including the woods, athletic fields, the stands or behind the school, are considered off-limits.
