Communication from Mr. Weiss

Letterhead

August 2023

Dear Junior,

Summer is almost over, and the new school year is just around the corner.  Let me be the first to welcome you back to your Junior year at Schreiber.  I hope you had an enjoyable and productive summer, and are as excited about the upcoming school year as I am.  Junior year will be an important year for you.  To be as successful as you can, you will need to use your time wisely and continue or even upgrade your level of involvement with the school.  Remember that SAT’s and College applications are waiting in the not-too-distant future.

The school year will begin on Tuesday September 5th.  Please report to the room listed below at 8:00 a.m. for a special organizational period, which will include your grade level assembly.  Please bring your schedule and a pen and pencil.  Tuesday will be a Day A and all classes will meet, so come prepared. You will receive a copy of the day’s schedule for Day A and you will also be given a new ID card.   It is very important that you report to your designated room on time.

BOCES STUDENTS:  Those students who go to BOCES in the A.M. must sign in my office as soon as they arrive at the high school.  Check with Mrs. Lane when you arrive to update your demographic information, etc.  Be sure to pick up your ID card,  and a copy of the special schedule for the day.

Attendance:  Make every effort to be in school on time every day.

  • All calls for absences and lateness must be received on the day of the absence or lateness.
  • Calls should be made to 767-5836 between 7:30 and 9:00 am.
  • A student arriving between 8:05 and 8:30 am reports directly to class; the teacher may assign tank time.
  • A student arriving after 8:30 am for a first period class must sign in at my office before reporting to class. A parent call explaining the lateness is required or disciplinary action will result.
  • If a student needs to leave school early they MUST sign out in either my office or the medical office before leaving school. A parent call is required in advance for all sign outs.

**Parents and students should be aware that a late sign-in, even with a parent call, may jeopardize academic performance in the classes that are missed due to the 85% rule. Additionally, a student signing in after 11 a.m. may be excluded from participating in the extra-curricular program on that day (see student handbook for additional information).

Academic Eligibility: Your academic performance is directly connected with your ability to participate in our athletic and extra-curricular activities.  At the completion of each marking period (quarter) an individual who has failed two or more subjects will be ineligible to participate in co-curricular activities or athletics for the duration of the next marking period.

Lockers and LocksIf you plan to use a locker this year please see Mrs. Lane for a locker assignment.  If you lose the lock it will cost $5.00 to replace.  You may not change lockers without permission.

ID Cards: Every student will be issued a new ID card this year.  Your ID MUST be visible at all times.  Teachers and security guards must be presented with this card upon request. Your ID card will serve as your bus pass and may also be used to purchase food in the cafeteria if you enroll in the program.  A separate bus pass WILL NOT be issued by the transportation office.  Your ID card will also serve as your library card.  If you have lost your card, please see Mr. Miller for a replacement.  The cost is $5.00.

HandbookThe student handbook is online. You can find it under the “parents and students” tab.  You are expected to familiarize yourself with its contents.  As a student at Schreiber I ask that you know the rules and act responsibly.

Student Lunch / Off Campus: Juniors may leave campus if their schedule permits.  You may not congregate by the chain at St. John’s Place or streets adjacent to the school.  The tennis courts, the rear of the school and the Monfort Lot area are off limits.  If abused, this privilege may be revoked.

Parking:  Juniors may not park on campus (in either the Monfort lot or the main parking lot).  Please be advised that any juniors found parking on campus will be assigned in school suspension.

Student DayIn order to be in your first period class by 8:05 each day, you should arrive at school no later than 8:00 am. Keep in mind that Campus Drive traffic can be heavy and leave enough time to arrive at your class on time. Classes will end at 3:05 p.m.
