Dear Senior,

Senior year… well, I for one can’t believe how fast the time has flown by.  After four years I have come to know so many of you quite well and each of you is an important part of my life.  This has truly been an exceptional class!!! This year you will be applying for colleges and making plans for the future.  While this can be a scary time it is also exciting.  Enjoy the college process for what it is; the opening of a new chapter in your life where you can choose your own destiny.  I, for one, know you will move on to this next chapter in your lives as mature, prepared young adults.  That being said, be mindful of your academic responsibilities this year.  Do not fall victim to “senioritis.” Colleges do actually look VERY carefully at your work throughout the senior year.

School opens on Tuesday, September 5th.  Regardless of your grade level, you are to report to the room listed below at 8:00 a.m. for a special organizational period, which will include an opening day assembly.  You must come in regardless of your schedule on that day in the cycle.  Please bring your schedule, a notebook and a pencil and pen.  You will receive a copy of the special Day A schedule and your new ID card.  It is very important that you report to your designated room on time.

Please note that our school schedule has changed.  Please refer to Dr. Behr’s letter for more details or follow this link. Updated Bell Schedule.

Attendance: Make every effort to be in school every day.  All calls for absence and lateness to school must be received on the day of the absence or lateness at 767-5844.  If a parent does not call, the absence will be recorded as UNEXCUSED and may not be made up.

Academic Eligibility: Reminder: Your academic performance is directly connected with your ability to participate in our athletic and extra-curricular activities.  At the completion of each marking period (quarter) an individual who has failed two or more subjects will be ineligible to participate in co-curricular activities or athletics for the duration of the next marking period.

Dress CodePer the district’s dress code policy, it is expected that you dress properly for school.  Clothing that is revealing or contains inappropriate messages will require you to change.

Handbooks:   The school handbook is online and has been completely revised so that you can find information easily.  Please review it carefully as you are responsible for the information contained in the document.  You can find the handbook under the “parents and students” tab.  Here is the link: Student Handbook

ID Cards: ID cards must be worn and be visible throughout the school day.  Every student will be issued a new ID card this year.  Your ID card will serve as your bus pass, library card and may also be used to purchase food in the cafeteria.  It must be visible at all times.  If you have lost your card, please see me for a replacement.  The cost is $5.00.

Locks/Lockers:  Juniors and seniors will NOT be assigned lockers unless one is requested.  If you do want a locker, one will be assigned to you.   Please see Mrs. Pond and she will assign you a locker and provide you with a combination.  If you had a locker last year it is still yours and the combination remains the same.

Lost Books:  If you received a letter regarding a lost book please check your closet, under your bed, etc., and return those books as soon as possible.  Access to the grade portal may be withheld until debts are paid.

Pride in Port:    September 23                                       Open House:     September 14                    The BIG Picture: October 10

Student Day: In order to be in your first period class by 8:05 each day, you should arrive at school no later than 8:00 a.m.  Keep in mind that Campus Drive traffic can be heavy so leave enough time to arrive at your class on time.  Classes will end at 3:05 p.m.

  • Lateness to First Period: Students arriving late for first period must sign in at my office before going to period one class. Repeated lateness to class will result in disciplinary action.  No parking is not an excused lateness or absence!
  • Lateness during the day: If you arrive any time after first period, you must immediately report to my office to sign in. Parents should have already called to indicate the reason for the lateness.  Remember, oversleeping is not an excused absence and will be marked as a cut.
  • Leaving Early: We understand that due to scheduled appointments you might need to leave school.  You must always sign out either in my office or the medical office before leaving school IF CLASSES WILL BE MISSED.  A parent must call in advance and a note from the doctor must be handed in when you return.  If you do not provide a note from the doctor the absence will be recorded as UNEXCUSED.

Parents and students should be aware that classes missed, when signing-in or signing-out even with a parent call, apply towards the 85% attendance policy.

Student Lunch / Off Campus: Students in 11th and 12th grade, or those who have reached the age of 17, are allowed to go off campus.  11th and 12th grade students will receive a color coded ID card.  Ninth or 10th students may get a special sticker from my office when they reach the age of 17. Student will not be allowed to take food out of the cafeteria with the exception of bringing it to the student commons.  If there are no seats available in the cafeteria, additional seating can be found at the picnic tables outside as well as the student commons.  EATING AND GATHERING IN THE HALLS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED. Juniors may leave campus if their schedule permits.  The chain, rock, St. John’s Place, tennis courts, the rear of the school, the woods and the Monfort Lot area are off limits.  Students found in these areas will be subject to disciplinary action.

Student Parking:  Seniors are allowed to park in the Monfort lot with a parking permit.  Parking permits for the lot can be obtained from my office.  Students must have a permit to park in the lot.  The main lot on campus is off limits to students until 3:05.  Specific penalties for parking infractions ranging from loss of parking privileges to in-school suspension are spelled out in the parking permit application and student handbook.  Students parking without a permit will be subject to disciplinary action.  Please be mindful of the rules and drive carefully.

Summer School Eligibility: Excessive absence or cutting could affect whether or not approval to attend summer school is granted by the principal.

Unstructured Time:  I strongly urge you to spend your unstructured time in the library or resource centers.  EATING AND GATHERING IN THE HALLS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED.  Please remember that all other areas on campus, including the woods, athletic fields, the stands or behind the school, are considered off-limits.

Enjoy the rest of the summer and I will see you on September 5TH.

Sincerely,

David Miller
