August Update 2023

Dear Schreiber Families,

Thank you for your patience as we transition to Synergy, our new student information system. We experienced some obstacles with syncing the new system, leading to understandable frustration. We apologize for the confusion and want to assure you that we are working diligently to address these issues. Please understand that this introductory phase involves a learning curve for all of us, and we are so grateful for the tireless efforts of those behind the scenes preparing for the first day of school. We are confident that we will work through this temporary challenge together, and we will provide progress updates along the way.

For clarification and convenience, here are links to the welcome letters from the principal, and the grade level welcome letters:

Class of 2027 (Grade 9) from Ms. Anisis

Class of 2026 (Grade 10) from Ms. Weinstein

Class of 2025 (Grade 11) from Mr. Weiss

Class of 2024 (Grade 12) from Mr. Miller

Bell Schedule Update

Bell schedule update: This past Wednesday, our master scheduler uncovered an issue with the way schedules transferred into Synergy from Aspen. In order to better describe student schedules, we are rolling out a slightly different labeling system for our unique modified block schedule and patterned rotation. The instructional periods remain 60 minutes long, all students have lunch daily, and the bells will sound at the exact times as last year. The change is purely cosmetic and will help ease the transition from Aspen to Synergy.

As you can see, periods 1 - 3 and 7 - 8 are each an hour. Students will either have lunch period 4 or period 6 (formerly known as 4.1 and 4.2 lunch). If students have lunch period 4, their next class will be held during periods 5 and 6. Those with a class during periods 4 and 5 will have lunch period 6.

Bell schedules listed on the website will be updated on the website. The updated organizational homeroom bell schedule used on the first day of school may be found below:

Ms. Weinstein will continue with the rising sophomores as the Class of 2026 assistant principal. Mr. Weiss will continue working with the rising juniors as the assistant principal of the Class of 2025. Mr. Miller is thrilled to lead our seniors in the Class of 2024 as they experience milestone events throughout their final year of high school.

All students and visitors must use the main entrance as the point of entry and exit moving forward. As in the past, we expect plenty of traffic on Campus Drive each morning. Please factor added travel time into your schedules and consider getting dropped off at an alternate location.

Lastly, all students should have a district-issued Chromebook. Please note that our technology department plans to upgrade devices in the fall. More information will be shared with the timeline, procedures, and replacement costs for damaged or misplaced devices. While you can use your own device during school, we cannot provide technical support for personal devices.

As summer vacation comes to a close, I hope you take time to reflect on the challenges of last school year and look ahead to opportunities you wish to engage in during the next. Your years in high school are the perfect time to explore interests, meet new people, and make meaningful connections as you continue your personal journey to prepare for what's next. The adults in this building are here to support you, and we encourage you to reach out, whether you're saying hello, checking in, or asking for help. Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns. Your grade level assistant principal is also an excellent point of contact for questions throughout the year.

During these last days of vacation, spend time with friends and family, relax, and enjoy the beautiful weather. On behalf of the Schreiber administrative team, we can't wait to welcome you back on the first day of school and look forward to a great year together!

Sincerely,

August 2023

Dear Students and Parents/Guardians:

The purpose of this letter is to inform you of the electronic device rule at Schreiber High School. We kindly ask you to familiarize yourself with the following expectations to support an environment conducive to learning and engagement.

Electronic devices include but are not limited to mobile phones, laptops, Chromebooks, tablets, and electronic recording devices (i.e., cameras, video cameras). This rule also includes wearable devices such as headphones and smartwatches.

At times, instructional methods incorporate the use of technology. Please remember that electronic devices used during class are for instructional purposes only, not for gaming, entertainment, or social communications. The use of electronic devices in the classrooms, at assemblies, and during safety drills is strictly prohibited unless expressly authorized by a school official. Unless directed for instructional use, the devices must be put away and may not be visible. Inappropriate use of electronic devices or use deemed disruptive or unsafe may result in any of the following consequences:

  • Any staff member, administrator, teacher, teaching assistant, educational assistant, secretary, etc. may confiscate the device.
  • Parents may be notified.
  • Parents may be required to pick up the electronic device.
  • The student may be assigned detention in school or after school.
  • The student may be assigned in-school or out-of-school suspension.

In the event that a staff member has confiscated an electronic device, the device will be given to the appropriate grade level administrator as soon as possible. Any student who refuses a staff member’s request to relinquish an electronic device will be considered insubordinate and subject to further disciplinary action.

Using electronic devices outside the building, in the cafeteria, in the student commons, or during class changes is acceptable. If you need to reach your child during class, please contact the appropriate grade level office, and a message will be immediately forwarded to the student.

Thank you for your partnership in ensuring a productive and safe learning environment. If you have a question about this matter, please contact one of the building administrators.

Sincerely,

PAUL D. SCHREIBER HIGH SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS

Dear Parents/Guardians,

In order to start the year off smoothly, please take a few minutes to consider the established traffic pattern at Schreiber High School. The map link in this letter provides a good overview of the parking lot. Although our traffic pattern has not changed for the 2023-2024 school year, we kindly ask that you review this map and pay special attention to the following safety procedures:

  • For the safety of our students, staff and visitors, please drive slowly and cautiously on campus.
  • Please do not cut through the parking lot. The few minutes or seconds that you save pale in comparison to the risk created as students and staff walk through the lot.
  • Please do not pass vehicles that are stopped and discharging students. This is extremely dangerous. Please be patient.
  • If you are dropping off your child, please pull all the way up to the end of the cafeteria just before the handicapped parking area. Often cars have stopped before this spot, causing a backup that is quite dangerous.
  • Do not turn around in front of the school in an attempt to return to Campus Drive.
  • Do not stop on Campus Drive to discharge students, even if they attend middle school. Middle school students should be dropped off on Bogart Ave.
  • Please be very careful if you drop your child on Old Hills Lane. This off-campus location is not recommended because there is no security to assist with traffic control. If you decide to drop off your children in this area, please pull to the side of the road and be very alert for passing vehicles.
  • Cars are not allowed into the bus circle until all buses have arrived, typically around 7:30 each morning.
  • The St. John’s Street exit will remain closed in the morning due to safety concerns unless inclement weather or other exigent circumstances necessitate opening.

Security guards are here to maintain safety on the school campus. Please observe all security directives. Thank you for your help and support in ensuring the safety of our children.

Sincerely,

sig
