CHEMISTRY DEPARTMENTAL GRADING POLICY

TESTS:                      100 points each.

QUIZZES:                10-30 points each.

HOMEWORK: Maximum 50 points per quarter.
HOMEWORK: Homework is due in class on time and will be checked by your teacher.

All work and calculations must be shown.

NO LATE HOMEWORK WILL BE ACCEPTED.  Home work not done will lower your   average for the quarter by  1  point per assignment.

LAB REPORTS:      In order to take the Chemistry Regents Exam in June all students must satisfactorily complete the New York State Lab Requirement.

Lab Report Format:  See Instructor.

Most Lab Reports will include:

1.  Student Name/Section/Teacher.

2.  Title (underlined and in capital letters).

3.  Objective (stating the purpose of the lab).

4.  Data Page (all data must indicate proper units and significant figures).

5.  Calculation Page (must show all work, formulas used and proper units).

6.  Conclusion and/or Questions (stating outcome of lab or what you determined).

Satisfactory Lab Grade:   6-10 points.

Late Labs:                            Minus  5 points if not handed in on the due date.

No Lab:                                 Zero points.

NOTE:  Labs that receive an unsatisfactory grade will be returned for revisions and will not count towards your Lab Requirement until revised.

STUDENT ABSENCES:

If you are absent from class for any reason you are responsible for getting the notes and homework assignments.  If you miss a quiz or exam you must make it up the day you return to class.  If you do not promptly makeup a quiz or exam it will count as zero points. If you are absent on a day when a homework or lab report is due, you must hand in that assignment on the day you return to class or it will be graded as being late.

QUARTERLY GRADES:

Add up all points awarded and divide by the total possible points you could have earned.  This is your grade for the quarter.
