Who:   Ideally this course is for an  advanced art student who has completed foundations in studio art and/or drawing and painting. However, it is open to students of all levels who are interested in learning the methods, techniques, and materials used to create expressive paintings. 
 
What:  Students taking this course will explore contemporary and traditional styles of painting. They will work in various genres of painting including abstract, still life, portraits, landscapes, and surrealism. Painting from observation and imagination will also be included.
 
When: Full year course. 
 
Where: Most time is spent in the art studios. Landscape painting may require going outdoors.
 
Why: Students who successfully complete this course will be well prepared for the college-level Advanced Placement course that they may choose to take during their junior and senior years.
